Electricity & The Law

According to a government survey, every year faulty electrics in the home kill ten people and injures 750 more. On January 1st, 2005, the current laws aimed at preventing substandard workmanship came into force. Known as Part P of the Building Regulations, it states that anyone carrying out fixed electrical installations in England and Wales must comply with the national safety standard for them (BS 7671).

Under the new regulations, electrical work must be “suitably designed, installed, inspected and tested so as to provide reasonable protection against them being the source of a fire or a cause of injury to persons”. You can rest assured that all our tradesmen, practices and certification adheres closely to this law. All our inspections and installations are carried out by highly competent electricians to BS7671 and are issued with a NICEIC certificate.

I needed an electrical certificate to sell my house and F Mitton and Son were excellent. They responded really quickly to my initial email enquiry, were able to send someone out within a couple of days to complete the checks and then arranged for the remedial work to be done within a week so we could get the certificate we needed. Lorraine was really helpful the whole way through, keeping me up to date with timings and was very clear on costs and what needed to be done at all stages. The work was completed with minimal disruption and the engineers were friendly, polite and professional at all times. I would definitely use them again and would fully recommend to others.
